The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) would like to introduce you to the National Poisoning and Exposure Database System (NPDS), the only comprehensive poisoning surveillance database in the United States. The data collected in the NPDS is a valuable resource for educators, researchers, product safety managers, medical directors, regulatory affairs directors and regulators.
Developed in 1983, the NPDS contains detailed information on more than 40 million poison exposures reported to U.S. poison centers. That includes more than 3.9 million reports to poison centers for 2005 alone, covering all exposures reported to all 61 U.S. Poison Centers.
Each year, the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) publishes an annual data report summarizing data submitted to this national database by Poison Centers throughout the country. Annual data reports are available for all years from 1983 through 2005. Annual Data Reports have been published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine and beginning in 2006 are published in Clinical Toxicology. (.pdfs of prior annual reports are available at www.AAPCC.org) Printing of these reports is made possible through the generous financial support of McNeil Consumer Healthcare. Please call the American Association of Poison Control Centers (202) 362-7217 if you would like to inquire about this data.
